UConn on SNYThe show will also air on Friday, May 17 at 6:00 p.m., Monday, May 20 at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 26 at 5:00 p.m. and Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day) at 3:00 p.m.

The documentary is produced in a similar fashion to SNY's Huskies All-Access program - which followed the UConn women's basketball team during the intense first week of practice as they prepared for their 2012-13 championship season.

"UConn Spring Football All Access" delivers viewers the ultimate insider's perspective as this behind-the-scenes documentary brings fans into the closed-door coaches meetings - providing an intimate look at head coach Paul Pasqualoni and his coaching staff. The show features detailed footage from team and positional meetings to the UConn coaches discussing player recruitment, player development and coaching techniques in order to get the team properly prepared for the season.

SNY's camera's also followed several players - who were wired for sound - around campus to give fans a glimpse into a typical day-in-a-life of the student-athlete. "UConn Spring Football All Access" will also showcase team practices, player weight-room sessions and even team meals to provide a comprehensive, all-access look at the program leading up to UConn's annual Blue-White Spring Football Game.

"I have seen an advance version of this documentary and I want to let all sports fans know how exciting I think this show will be for them to watch," said Pasqualoni. "Everyone who views it, especially Husky fans, will appreciate all the hard work that our players and coaching staff put into preparation during spring practice. It also highlights everything that is offered at UConn academically and how beautiful our campus is."

Andre Dixon #2 of the University of Connecticut Huskies runs past Manti Te'o #5 of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Notre Dame Stadium on November 21, 2009 in South Bend, Indiana.

It looks like former UConn Huskies RB Andre Dixon will get another chance to play professional football. This time around though it looks like it'll be north of the border in the Canadian Football League.

Training camp begins for the BC Lions in two weeks and Dixon will get a chance to show his stuff. He'll compete with three other running backs for a chance to make the team.

Dixon last played professionally in 2011 for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the now defunct United Football League (UFL).

Andre Drummond

NEW YORK (May 14, 2013) --- Former UConn center Andre Drummond (Middletown, Conn.) has been named to the 2012-13 NBA All-Rookie Team, announced Tuesday.

Drummond, a 2012 first-round draft pick of the Detroit Pistons and the ninth overall pick, was named to the All-Rookie Second Team, earning the highest number of points of the five players on the Second Team. Drummond received five votes for the first team and 15 for the second team.

The 6-10 center, despite missing time during the latter part of the season with an injured back, played in 60 games for the Pistons this season, starting 10. He averaged 7.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocked shots and 20.7 minutes per game and shot 60.8 percent overall.

Drummond notched 11 double-doubles during his rookie season. He scored double figures in 20 games, including a season-high 29 points against Cleveland on April 10. He also recorded 22 double-figure rebounding games, including a season-high 18 against Milwaukee on Jan. 29.

Drummond is the ninth former Husky to be named to the NBA All-Rookie Teams, but the first since Rudy Gay made the All-Rookie First Team and Marcus Williams was on the All-Rookie Second Team in 2006-07.

The other Huskies to be honored after their first NBA season include: Charlie Villanueva (First Team, 2005-06), Emeka Okafor (Rookie of the Year) and Ben Gordon (both on First Team, 2004-05), Caron Butler (First Team, 2002-03), Ray Allen (Second Team, 1996-97), and Donyell Marshall (Second Team, 1994-95).

Named to the 2013 NBA All-Rookie First Team were Damian Lillard of Portland, Bradley Beal of Washington, Anthony Davis of New Orleans, Dion Waiters of Cleveland, and Harrison Barnes of Golden State.

Joining Drummond on the Second Team were Jonas Valanciunas of Toronto, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist of Charlotte, Kyle Singler of Detroit, and Tyler Zeller of Cleveland.

Drummond was a freshman at UConn during the 2011-12 season, playing all 34 games and averaging 10.0 points, a team-leading 7.6 rebounds, and shooting a team-best 53.8 percent as the Huskies went 20-14 and reached the NCAA Tournament.

Anchorage Glacier Pilots Legacy Project

Written by Ian on .

The 2001 NBC Champions Untold Story. Until now.

An Alaskan filmmaker needs your help to fund this film project.

“Well, why don’t you do it?” my Dad asked, as we sat behind home plate at Mulcahy Stadium in the summer of 1999. I still remember that hot summer so long ago, the smell of burning pine trees from a huge forest fire just north of Anchorage.  We had been talking about how the American sports media had really overlooked baseball in Alaska, and all the amazing talent that had come through the Alaska Baseball League. The list of talent that played at one time or another since the Pilots first took the field in 1969 was incredible: Mark McGwire, Randy Johnson, Mickey Hatcher, Suguru Egawa, Dan Boone, Randy Jones, Chris Chambliss, Dave Winfield, Tom Seaver, Bump Wills, Graig Nettles, and Rick Monday, to name a few.

So, I took up his challenge.  In the summer of 2001, my wife and I, together with our one-year old son, set off to follow the Pilots around the state on what I thought would be a small short film on the history of the Glacier Pilots. This small film grew into a true catching-lightning-in-a-bottle story: the NBC & ABL Championship 2001 Team - filled with the inspiring stories of young baseball players and the last days of one of Alaska's greatest baseball coaches and personalities, Jack O'Toole.

It was bittersweet for Jack's health was declining. He had suffered a stroke and the Pilots asked me to speak with him and record his tales about Pilots baseball. I knew of Jack, as most Alaskans did, seeing him every year coaching the Pilots, but I had never really met him before. As a kid growing up in Anchorage, the Glacier Pilots were like the New York Yankees to me. My father, a high school coach himself, was also battling ill health at this time. I felt a special kinship with Jack's son, Patrick O'Toole.  We both spent a great part of our childhoods in the ball park. It was my privilege to be able to preserve some of Jack’s personal stories for future generations of Pilots fans. Those stories became a part of the first documentary I did about the Glacier Pilots.

"Lefty & Jack" was released in 2004, a 49-minute documentary (available for purchase on DVD at (www.glacierpilots.com) featuring then Pilot's Coaches: Jack O'Toole and Lefty Van Brunt, reminiscing about a lot of really funny and exciting moments of playing baseball in Alaska. The film was well received and met with great reviews.

On to the rest of the series! Problem was the next two films’ scopes are so large it really became too much for one person to do all alone, and, like most documentaries that you believe in, it was a labor of love. I wasn't able to tackle what became the huge, complex and fascinating story of the Glacier Pilots before my father passed away in 2011.

Now though, with your help, it is possible to finally get this done.

The funding of this project (through Kickstarter.com) will allow me to finish the project, BUT it won't be just one film! This project will also include a web series of the 2001 Pilots – premiering this year, a separate documentary on the History of the Pilots and a final feature film documentary on the 2001 team for film festivals and project donors (1st BASE LEVEL and higher).

The funding is key, and it won’t be an easy task. I need to raise at least $17,500 in 30 days. Those funds will make it possible for me buy music clearances and hire the additional editing and post production services that this project deserves, along with paying for film festival fees and other promotional items. The Glacier Pilots ball club has donated tickets and items as they want the story told just as much as I do.

Kickstarter campaigns operate under an “all-or-nothing” funding model, so if the Glacier Pilots Legacy project does not reach its goal at the end of 30 days, then the Pilots and I go home empty-handed. Be sure to follow the project on Twitter (@pilotslegacy) and Facebook.  Make sure to spread the word to your social media networks. Consider donating as little as $5 to help the project come to life. Some of the sponsor gifts offered for those who decide to donate at a higher level include DVDs, Pilots home game tickets, Pilots merchandise and even a producer credit in the film.
