Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 8/4

Written by Ian on .

Justin Masterson (L), Jon Lester (R)

We were off this morning for some personal business but now we're back in action.

After a great pitching performance from Josh Beckett and the eventful return of Mike Lowell last night, the Boston Red Sox look to take game three of a four-game set against the Cleveland Indians tonight at Fenway Park.

This evening's game will start at 7:10 p.m. and will be shown on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Indians television market, you can catch the game on STO. If you can't catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to the game on the 2010 Red Sox radio network.

Jon Lester will look to end a three-game losing streak in his 22nd start of 2010. In his previous 21 starts, Lester is 11-6 with a 3.05 ERA. He's faced the Indians once in 2010, picking up a no decision back on June 10th when he allowed six runs in six innings in a game won by the Indians 8-7. Overall in his career, he's made seven career starts against the Indians and is 3-0 with a 4.65 ERA. Lester will be making his first since his wife Farrah gave birth to their first child, a son named Hudson.

Justin Masterson returns to Fenway Park for a second time but his first as a starter with the Indians.  He was on the DL when the Indians visited the Red Sox at the end of last season. Masterson is making his 22nd start of 2010 and is 3-10 with a 5.55 ERA. He shut down his former club back in his only appearance against them back on June 9th when he threw the first complete game shutout of his career. He made 36 appearances (eight starts) at Fenway Park as a member of the Red Sox and was 8-2 with a 3.61 ERA.

UConn, SNY To Announce Partnership

Written by Ian on .

UConn HuskiesHere's a press release from the UConn Athletics Communication department concerning a press conference tomorrow.

The University of Connecticut Division of Athletics and SportsNet New York (SNY) will hold a press conference on Thursday, August 5 at Rentschler Field to announce a new television partnership in conjunction with the BIG EAST Conference and ESPN Regional Television.

Here's my problem with this announcement.

It seems as though this means we won't be able to watch the UConn Huskies football or men's basketball games on WTNH 8 or MyTV9 anymore. And if you're cable provider is Cox Cable like mine or Charter Communications like my parents, you won't be able to watch the games because SNY is not carried by them.

Essentially half of the state wouldn't be able to watch the games as the only ones who broadcast SNY are Cablevision and Comcast. Ironically enough if you attend UConn, you wouldn't be able to watch the games on television either since Huskyvision doesn't carry SNY.

While it's probable there could be a deal with Cox and SNY announced in the near future, I find it highly unlikely they'll add SNY to appease their UConn fans. It's probably going to take a campaign of phone calls, emails and letters to COX or even Charter to get SNY added to the lineup.

Video: Red Sox, Indians Clear The Benches

Cleveland Indians' Shelley Duncan, right, has words with Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Josh Beckett, left, who grabs his jersey in the eighth inning of a baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010. Both benches cleared with pushing and shoving after Jensen Lewis threw a pitch behind Adrian Beltre. Lewis, Beckett and Indians third-base coach Steve Smith were ejected from the game. During the bottom of the 8th inning of Tuesday night's game, Cleveland Indians pitcher Jensen Lewis threw behind Boston Red Sox third baseman Adrian Beltre and of course Beltre didn't take kindly to it.

He was stopped by Indians catcher Lou Marson and home plate umpire Tim Welke before anything serious could happen. But the benches cleared anyways and we have a few verbal discussions, mainly between Josh Beckett and Shelley Duncan, and some shoving.

But after it was cleared up, Red Sox skipper Terry Francona was going at it with Indians third base coach Steve Smith and the players headed back out. I wonder if Tito told Smith sucked on "The Amazing Race".

Why on earth would you throw at Beltre? This is the same guy that will beat his teammates up for rubbing his head. After all was said and done, Lewis, Smith and Beckett were all ejected from the game.

Video: Jerry Remy Gets A Speeding Ticket During The Game

Written by Ian on .

During tonight's 3-1 Boston Red Sox win over the Cleveland Indians, NESN analyst Jerry Remy got a speeding ticket during the game. Earlier in the game, Don Orsillo and the RemDawg were talking about the new NESN billboard by the Mass Pike which led to the Remy saying he'd never gotten a speeding ticket.

Well one thing led to another and during an inning break, the RemDawg was cited for speeding in the vicinity of Fenway Park.

Here's the video for you to enjoy:

Video: Mike Lowell Returns To A Standing Ovation & Follows With A HR

After being in purgatory since finishing his rehab assignment with the Pawtucket Red Sox, Mike Lowell returned to a nice standing ovation from the Boston Red Sox faithful on Tuesday night. What he did after that only happens at Fenway Park.
