2010 Associated Press Top 25 Preseason Poll

Written by Ian on .

UConn Huskies football helmetThe 2010 Associated Press Top 25 Preseason Poll for college football came out on Saturday morning and like the USA Today Coaches Poll we find the defending national champs the Alabama Sooners on top. Take it with a grain of salt folks as the polls mean nothing right now and for the early part of the season.

My UConn Huskies football team comes in as the 31st best team in the land according to the AP after receiving 32 votes. The highest ranked team from the Big East is the Pittsburgh Panthers come in at No. 15 while the West Virginia Mountaineers come in at No. 25.

The Cincinnati Bearcats were the only other team to receive votes and they are on the outside looking in at No. 26.

A full look at the poll after the jump.

Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 8/19

Written by Ian on .

Ervin Santana (L), Josh Beckett (R)

After a comeback win last night, the Boston Red Sox look for a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels tonight at Fenway Park. A win tonight would make the Red Sox 10-0 against the Angels in 2010.

This evening's game will start at 7:10 p.m. and will be shown on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Angels television market, you can catch the game on FOX Sports West. And if you don't live in either market you're in luck as you can catch the game on the MLB Network. If you can't catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to the game on the 2010 Red Sox radio network.

Josh Beckett looks to get back to his old Commander KickA$ form in his 14th start of 2010. In his previous 13 starts, he is 3-2 with a 6.51 ERA. He's faced the Angels once in 2010, picking up the win after allowing three runs in seven innings back on July 27th. He's made nine career regular season starts against the Angels and is 3-3 with a 4.10 ERA.

Ervin Santana makes looks to get the Angels in the win column in his 25th start of 2010. In his previous 24 starts, Santana 12-8 with a 3.99 ERA. He's made one start against the Red Sox in 2010 and picked up a no decision back on May 4th when he allowed one earned run in seven innings. Santana has made seven career starts against the Red Sox and is 1-2 with 4.61 ERA. He's made five of those starts at Fenway Park where he is 0-2 with a 5.08 ERA.

And before we get to the stuff after the jump, I'd be remissed if I didn't make mention that the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Telethon is taking place today and tomorrow. I know times are tough but if you've got a few spare dollars laying around be sure to donate. You donate at the Jimmy Fund website, by calling 877-738-1234. You can also text kcancer to #20222 from your mobile phone to make a $10 dollar donation. Remember any amount you can donate will help.

Saltalamacchia Becomes 19th Victim of Red Sox DL

Written by Ian on .

Boston Red Sox breaking news

This is now beyond ridiculous for the Boston Red Sox with yet another player heading to the disabled list.

The Red Sox announced this afternoon that newly acquired catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with an infection in his lower leg. Dusty Brown has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Salty's place on the 25-man roster.

This is 19th player the Red Sox have placed on the disabled list in 2010. And this is Brown's second stint with the Red Sox in 2010.

Not 'Misheard": Clemens Indicted by Federal Government

Written by Ian on .

Barry Bonds and Rogers Clemens in prison

It's definitely looking like New York Yankees starting pitcher Andy Pettitte did not mishear when his baseball ex-best friend Rogers Clemens told him he took HGH.

Clemens was indicted on Thursday afternoon by a federal grand jury on six counts. Clemens now will face charges of obstruction of Congress, making false statements and perjury. You can check out the charges for yourself in the Roger Clemens Indictment.

The main reason for the indictment is the testimony of Clemen's former personal trainer Brian McNamee. Clemens testified that he didn't use steroids or HGH while McNamee countered that Clemens had in fact used them while testifying in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform back in 2008.

Clemens now faces up to 30 years in prison on the six counts (five years for each count).

Barry Bonds will be starting his trial in March of 2011 on perjury charges. Maybe if they both are found guilty, they can be sent to the same federal prison and get a game going in the prison yard.

And if they did do steroids and head to prison, they might just get a little more than a needle in their butts.
