They say bad news comes in pairs and that's exactly what has happened for the Boston Red Sox on Thursday afternoon.
While the reports yesterday showed that Dustin Pedroia's foot was healing, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe is reporting that Pedroia will undergo surgery tomorrow. He will have a pin put in his left foot that will help the healing process.
Pedroia had been resigned to the fact that he was going to have surgery and now we know's that true.
And in the other bad news of the day, Carlos Delgado, who was signed to a minor league contract by the Red Sox with the hopes of helping the playoff push, has a tear in his left hip according to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald. Lauber spoke with Delgado's agent David Sloane.
“He’s extremely disappointed,” Sloane told the Herald. “It would be tough for a human being to not be disappointed. He wouldn’t be human if he wasn’t very upset about it.”
“He felt fine when he signed,” Sloane said. “He was playing. He was headed in right direction. All of a sudden, he felt pain there. Everything at this point is up in the air. He’s going to need some time to think about the next step.”
When he first went on the minor league DL, it was thought he'd be fine and still be able to help the Red Sox this month. Obviously that isn't the case at all.
I would have to suspect that this will probably ends Delgado's career since he is up there in years at 38.
