After losing their first six games on the road, the Boston Red Sox return home to the friendly confines of Fenway Park for a three-game set with the New York Yankees. And if you’re looking for a positive about the home opener, the Red Sox have won their last five straight home openers.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. and the game will be televised on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Yankees television market, you can catch the game on YES. And if you don’t live in either market, you’re in luck as the MLB Network will also be televising the game. If you can’t catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to the game on the 2011 Red Sox Radio Network.
John Lackey looks to get the Red Sox their first win in his second start of the season. He took the loss against the Rangers after allowing nine runs in 3.2 innings of work. Lackey was 1-1 with a 3.20 ERA against the Yankees in three starts during the 2010 season. In his career, he has made 19 starts against the Yankees and is 4-6 with a 4.43 ERA.
Phil Hughes will look to keep the Red Sox 0-for-2011 in his second start of the season. Hughes took the loss against the Tigers on 4/3 when he allowed five runs in four innings. He made five appearances (four starts) against the Red Sox in 2010 and was 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA. In his career against the Red Sox, Hughes is 2-3 with a 4.97 ERA in 13 appearances (six starts). In five career appearances (two starts) at Fenway Park, Hughes is 2-1 with a 6.00 ERA.
